On last Sunday during intercessory prayer, God showed me something that has stuck in my spirit all week. I believe that God wanted me to hear this message not just for myself, but for those who share with me weekly.
In the Old Testament scriptures, God is called by different names. These names carry a meaning and allow us to see God for who he truly is. Many of us are familiar and grew up hearing people in the church call him Jehovah- Shalom (Lord who is present), Jehovah- Rapha (The Lord is our healer), Jehovah- Jireh (The Lord will provide), Jehovah- Nissi (The Lord our Banner) or
Jehovah- Tsidkenu (The Lord of righteousness)! And though we have heard God called by these names we have not allowed him to be those things for us. Some of us call God these things, but have never received a greater understanding or appreciation of what each of them mean to us or who he can truly be for us.
But on last week I gained a new appreciation and understanding of God, Jehovah- Tsidkenu. One of the Elders at my church said, “He is the Lord of our righteousness, so he will wipe your SLATE Clean!” And I do not know about you on this Friday, but I need him to be Jehovah- Tsidkenu in my life, because I have done some things that I am not proud of, but God will make us Righteous. Why? Because he is Jehovah- Tsidkenu!
So on this Friday, take time and pray to the Lord of Righteousness.
Jeremiah 23: 6b
This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness.
So what is righteousness? It means without guilt or sin, but it also implies that a person has been judged as leading a life that is pleasing to God. Many people today are caught between a rock and hard place today. So many people love God, understand what he has done for them, and know what he can do, BUT they are stuck because of RELIGION. Religion has taught us that we are not worthy of God because of the sins that we commit. Religion has us to believe that we have to get our lives in order before we CAN submit fully to God. That is why I believe so many young adults have trouble with coming to church. They have not been taught that God is the Lord of Righteousness. So they stay out in the world: partying, drinking, smoking marijuana, fornicating, disrespecting their bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19), getting “tatted” up (Leviticus 19:28), living homosexual lives (1 Corinthians 6:9), and the list can go on and on! But God wants you to know today, that it does not matter what you are doing or what you have done, He will wipe your slate clean! You do not have to wait.
When I think of a slate, I think back to my days at Gesu Catholic School in Detroit, MI. were they had the old chalk boards (schools today have dry erase boards). Your teacher would write on that board all day long, his/her hands would have chalk all over them, and no matter how many times they wiped the board with the eraser it was never quite clean. So at the end of the day, our teachers would delegate a student to get a bucket and fill it with water, and clean the board. The water was wiped on the board, that board became the cleanest blackboard, like brand new. Until it dried up it was a shiny black.
And I hear God saying to you today that he will keep your blackboard shiny! Because he is Jehovah- Tsidkenu! Every time you board gets filled with chalk, you know longer have to use your eraser for a temporary cleaner, and it does not work anyway. But if you go to God, he will make it shine again and again and again!
Young people, it saddens me to see so many people who have been raised in the church, fall to the deception of the enemy. So many of us have blackboards with no more room on them to write, so many of us have tried to wipe off our boards on our own but the chalk dust is still there. That dust that pulls us back into situations that God has gotten us out of! But God is telling you today that he is God of Our Righteousness. He will make you Righteous!
So allow him to wipe your slate clean on today! You will shine like brand new!
Jehovah- Tsidkenu on today we come to you because we want to be righteous, but we do not know how on our own. We want to be what you have called and ordained us to be. We want to walk and live in newness; we want to receive what you have stored for us. God we know that we are not all that you want us to be. But on today, we give our lives to you! We submit them to you because you are the God of our Righteousness. Lord because you are the God of righteousness we too are the Righteousness of God. And through your righteousness we are entitled to covenant kindness and covenant favor. Lord we know that the Favor of God is among the righteous and that is where we want to be. Among the favor of God! So Lord, cleanse us of our sins and separate us from people who are in our lives for this season only to destroy us. Forgive us from our sins. Today, we come against the enemy and bind the spirit of distraction from our destiny. We come against the spirit of drugs, the spirit of fornication, the spirit of homosexuality, and every other spirit that try to destroy our lives. God we love you and we need you. Cover us! We will continue to give your name all the Glory and the Honor. In your son Jesus name. Amen!
