Read the Directions

Many of you know that I am currently working on my Ph.D. (pray for me). This summer quarter I have been buried under assignments so much that I felt a little overwhelmed.  The amount of work is just added on to the busy schedule that I have throughout my week.   It often leaves me with little time for myself and or to relax.  I am now three weeks into the quarter and my professor for one of the classes I am taking has changed.  The new professor has made all of these changes as it relates to our assignments, and added on more criteria for assignments that we already have.  I was a little frustrated (who am I kidding VERY) with the new changes I was ready to send my professor an email (LOL! I sure was).  But then God stepped in and gave me a revelation. God showed me that in life we will have assignments, and each assignment has directions, but if you don’t follow the criteria you will not get your reward.

So on this Friday we will spend time with God on… Are you following the teacher’s directions?

  Matthew 7:21

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

In grade school, we are given assignments.  At the top of my assignments was a blank line where I would write my name and underneath my name were the directions.  I can remember times at school where I would skip the directions and go straight to my work (I was thought I was too smart for directions).  Often because I would skip the direction, I would miss the most important detail in the assignment.  This would either cause me to have to redo the assignment (Sister Pat’s class 4th grade) or receive a low score. It was not until I completed high school that I realized the importance of those assignments.

God has an assignment for each and every one of us in his kingdom.  In the scripture, Jesus is teaching us that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will not go to heaven.   He goes on to teach us that, ONLY those who do God’s will enter in.  So what does God want us to take from this meditation on this week?

I believe that God wants us to know that even if we show up to class and complete the assignment, if we do not follow the directions we will not PASS. Many of us spend our lives going to church, bible study, prayer meeting (why we don’t have those anymore?), we know the word of God inside and out, can quote scriptures, name all the books of the bible…but when it comes to completing the assignment that God calls us to do, we skip the directions.  Some of us even act like our names are not even on top of the page! I do not know what your assignment is in life, and I do not know the most important detail of your assignment.  But what I do know is that the directions are found in the word of God.  And I know that if you do not follow God’s directions as it relates to your assignment, you may be like me, in Sister Pat’s class, always redoing the work.

Believe me; no matter how smart you are, your assignment is NOTHING without God’s Directions!

 Let’s Pray!

God on today, first we come asking you that you would forgive us for our sins.  We ask that you cleanse us and make us new Lord.  God we thank you for ALL that you are doing in and through our lives.  Give us the wisdom to understand the assignment you have placed on our lives.  Lord, give us strength to keep going, even when it seems like our assignment will not end. And when we fail, give us the strength to keep going.  God I ask that you reveal to everyone who reads this meditation their personal assignment in the kingdom.  Lord we confess that we cannot do anything without your directions.  God we Love you and adore you and we need you every day of our lives.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
