I believe I have shared with you all before, how I love inspirational quotes and scriptures. In my office I have many encouraging words on my walls, in hopes that my consumers will be encouraged despite all that they face. This week, one of my consumers gave me a quote that has sat on my desk for the entire week. It says, “I have totally given up on ever having a better past!” Only if that person knew how much that quote blessed me! God shows me every day through my consumers how people who are stuck in the past have a difficult time reaching their destiny.
So on today I encourage you to “Totally give up on ever having a better past!”
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
The apostle Paul wrote to the church of Philippi while imprisoned. And he said it does not count that I am contained (apprehended), but I forget those things that are in my past and look towards the future. Paul, the same man that threatened to kill the Lord’s followers (Acts 9:1). But despite his actions, God still chose him (Acts 9:11-15). Paul, the one that God filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17). Paul, the one who was imprisoned for preaching and teaching about Christ. He said despite all that I have done, all that I have been through, I am going to forget my past and focus on my future.
God showed me that so many people destroy their future, their families, their lives because they are holding on to things that have happen to them in the past, refusing to let it Go! But I hear God say that the only way you are going to be able to press towards the prize, is if you totally give up on ever having a better past! So many people are trying to fix the things that have happen in the past, but guess what? The past is over and God wants you to move into the future.
Everything that you have experienced in life has been for a reason; and the ultimate reason is to make you stronger! No matter what you have done, what you have experienced in the past remember that you cannot fix it. But remember that you have the opportunity to get closer to your destiny every day. How do you get to your destiny? Give God your All today!
God we come first asking that you would forgive our sins. Lord we ask that you give us a clean heart Jesus, so that we can follow after you. Lord, allow us to forget the things that are behind and give us the strength to press forward. We give our past to you; we give our hurts, pains, and sorrows to you. God you are so awesome and we know that everything that you have placed in our lives have only been there to make us stronger. So God we ask that you continue to strengthen us. Continue to teach us your ways! And we will continue to give you all the glory and honor. In Jesus name we pray Amen!
Pressing Towards the Mark,
