On last weekend, I had the opportunity of speaking to approximately 60 youth and young adults about the characteristics of a King at a Leadership Conference in Detroit, MI. God reminded me of the characteristics of the King of the Sky, which is the eagle. While studying the different aspects of an eagle, it was like a refresher for me. My Bishop loves to teach the leaders of the church about the eagle and how its abilities are similar to those who are leaders. But while studying, I stumbled upon a characteristic of an eagle that I have never heard before. An eagle has the power to endure; it has vitality. By the time an eagle reaches 30 years old, its physical conditions deteriorate. Its talon’s lose flexibility, and cannot properly grip their prey, its beak becomes dull and bent, and their wings get heavy and impair its ability to fly. But instead of giving up the eagle retreats to the mountain and over a period of five months it goes through a metamorphosis. It knocks it own beak off by banging it on the rock, it plucks its talon’s off and then it plucks its feathers. Each stage produces new growth of the removed body parts and it allows the eagle to live 30- 40 more years. But an eagle only begins this process while he is on the mountain!
And on this Friday, I believe that God wants me to encourage you to go to the Mountain!
Exodus 24:12-13 (Message Bible): GOD said to Moses, “Climb higher up the mountain and wait there for me; I’ll give you tablets of stone, the teachings and commandments that I’ve written to instruct them.” So Moses got up, accompanied by Joshua his aide. And Moses climbed up the mountain of God.
I encourage you to read Exodus 24 in its entirety. In the beginning of the chapter you will find that God commanded Moses to climb up the mountain and bring over seventy people with him. But then God told Moses (the leader) that he needed to climb a little higher. While there on the mountain Moses prayed for 40 days and 40 nights. And it was there on that mountain God spoke to Moses! He gave Moses instructions!
And I believe that God wants a few people on today to go to the Mountain! He has something to tell you! He has something that He wants to reveal to you on that mountain!
I believe that someone today who is reading this meditation needs to work on themselves. Nothing is going right and you need to stop blaming other people for you not advancing. “Nobody wants to hire me”. “They won’t give me a chance”. “They” “They” “They” But I hear God saying right now what about YOU! Stop blaming other people and go work on yourself. An eagle knows when it’s getting weak. They know when they cannot SOAR as high as they once could. They know when they are unable to feed themselves. They know! So when will you understand that the only way you are going to gain strength in this time of STRUGGLE is if you Go to the Mountain! The only way you are going to be able to soar to your highest potential is if you Go to the Mountain!
Can you imagine an eagle banging his beak up against the rocks of the mountain? We won’t even get on our knees to pray to God any more. We cannot even stay committed during a fast. But God commanded Moses to come up to the mountain and there he prayed and worshipped God for 40 days and 40 nights, and God revealed his plans and commandments to Moses. Some of you are worried right now thinking 40 days and nights, I have things to do! But if an eagle has enough sense to pluck his dead weight (feathers) off, when will you!
I believe God has a great work for you and like the Eagle you are getting weak! But I hear God say, Go to the mountain!
God we first come to you in humble adorations. We bow before you Lord on today! You are the true and living God! We worship you; we love on you this morning! God we come to you asking that you will forgive us for our sins. Thank you for the word on today. Give us the strength and wisdom to know and to go up to the mountain! God we thank you for the DOORS that you have opened for us in 2011. And right now we speak your anointing over our lives. We pray that your anointing destroys every yoke in our life. We enforce God’s original plans and purposes over and against the purpose of Satan. And we declare that no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper. God we thank you! We Love you and we adore you! And it is in Jesus Name that we pray AMEN!
On the Mountain,
