This week God had placed in my heart a meditation to share with each and every one of you. Friday Meditation was ready to go, but for some reason God led me to Facebook this morning. Usually, when I am preparing Friday Meditation, I guard myself from distractions and stay away from Facebook. But the moment I logged on the first thing I saw on my Feed was a status that just “tore” me up. The status read, “It was not the nails that held HIM to the Cross…” (Thank you Lord) Even as I am writing I cannot stop the tears from running down my face, or the praise that is on my lips. I wasn’t even prepared to write about what God did for us back on Calvary, even though it is GOOD FRIDAY. But after reading that , how can we meditate on anything else other than what Christ did for us on the cross.
So on this Friday, let us spend time with God and meditate on the topic “it wasn’t the nails”.
Matthew 27: 35-40 (The Message Bible)
After they had finished nailing him to the cross and were waiting for him to die, they whiled away the time by throwing dice for his clothes. Above his head they had posted the criminal charge against him: this is Jesus, the king of the Jews. Along with him, they also crucified two criminals, one to his right, the other to his left. People passing along the road jeered, shaking their heads in mock lament: “You bragged that you could tear down the Temple and then rebuild it in three days—so show us your stuff! Save yourself! If you’re really God’s Son, come down from that cross!”
I do not know about you, but when I think about Jesus and his crucifixion it makes me want to live better, do better, and be a better Monica. It is something about all that Jesus endured that makes me want to walk right, talk right, live right. That one thing is that Jesus did it just for me. Yea, ME… IT WASN’T THE NAILS…it was ME! And He didn’t just do it for me, he did for us ALL, but in order to get the message on this Friday, you must make it personal.
He knew thousands of years later, there would be a girl name Monica that would mess up, fail, sin, have a tongue that could bruise, an attitude that could hurt, a temper that will fight, a stubbornness that can block, facial expressions that could kill, and thoughts that would send her to the pits of hail. Now I might have used my own name, but don’t act like I am the only one. Many of you can change my name and place yours there, and it would fit just as perfect as mine did. Jesus knew thousands of years later that you would have to be saved not just from sin, but from yourself too. He knew that you would be bound by fornication, adultery, homosexuality, a heart of hatred, unfaithfulness, and whatever else that keeps you from receiving all that God has for you. Aren’t you so glad on today that HE knew that He would have to die, so that we could live?
See so many people want to change on December 31st because of the New Year, but honestly HOLY week should be the week that reminds us that we need to live better. Easter is the day that we need to begin making plans to change our lifestyles. It is time for us to ask God to give us a Clean Heart and Renew in us a Right Spirit. Matter fact, there is no need to wear New Clothes on Sunday if you’re going to be the same MESS on the inside.
Christ hung there; He was mocked. He was treated like a common criminal… but what is so powerful about the crucifixion is that WE know that HE had the Authority to come down from the CROSS and prove Himself to those who mocked him. (That’s a word right there) But He stayed there… Just for YOU… IT WASN’T THE NAILS that kept him there… It was YOU!
So as you go along in this world, living your life as if God does not exist, I encourage you to Read Matthew 26 and 27… and as you read, I pray that you will receive a revelation that IT WASN’T THE NAILS, but it was YOU! It was YOU that kept Jesus on the cross. He had the POWER to come down, but HE did it JUST FOR YOU! How many people do you know will die, so you can live? Well Jesus did…
God we first want to thank you for giving us your Son Jesus. We thank you that you allowed Him to be the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation. Lord, forgive us for our sins and forgive us for the lifestyle of sin that many live on today. God give us a Clean Heart on this day… a clean mind; renew our spirit on today God. Allow us to spend time honoring your sacrifice not just on today and for the rest of the weekend, but in our lives on a daily basis. God you are awesome! And we thank you for thinking about us, way before anyone else knew that we would exist. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to die that we may live on today. We love you God, We adore you Jesus, and we thank you because we know that IT WASN’T THE NAILS that kept you hanging on the Cross. In Jesus Name Amen!
Just for ME,
