Good morning! Today, I believe that God wants me to share this with you, so I will. There is this one person that I will admit I do not like. And I know that as a child of God, I am called to be like Him. But last week I had an altercation with the person; yes, I will admit it. Persons that REALLY know me know that once I do not like a person it is hard for me to even acknowledge the fact that they exist. They can be in the room with me and it is as if I am alone. I know it is something that I MUST work on. But lately this person has really gotten underneath my skin. It is like they play the victim; everything I say they think it is about them, or when things do not go their way they think I was involved. Now I have REALLY, HONESTLY not been paying attention to this person, and working on my thoughts and comments towards the person. And I have been keeping my cool with this individual for a long time (If it was not but for Jesus). But then this person just cannot keep my name out of their mouth. I always hear that the person has said something, or accused me of something (Lord, help me learn not to Gossip with People… that is my next task). But this time, instead of it being relayed to me, I actually heard the person being messy. And I just let that person have it! Yep I FAILED completely… a ZERO!
As I sought God for the meditation for this week, He kept pulling me back to the word LOVE! Now I am real with God, as He is with me… and I thought so PLEASE don’t tell me you want me to LOVE this person. In the midst of my preparation, God revealed to me our scripture for today….
So let’s meditate on 1 John 4:8 Message Bible
The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love- so you can’t know him if you don’t love.
WOW! There is deliverance in the Word of God. The scary thing about last week’s encountered was that I saw the old Monica, the person that is totally opposite of what God has called me to be. Seeing my old “self” frightened me because I have been working so hard to be what God called me to be. In this season, I want to be EVERYTHING God wants me to be!
God showed me this week that I am not the only person who has issues and a problem with loving certain people. There are so many people that God wants to use, but they have so much hatred in their heart. All because you have your guard up, that “No one is EVER going to hurt me again guard”. And we walk around with our Bibles in our hands, quoting scriptures, shouting, dancing, telling people we are “BLESSED and HIGHLY FAVORED”, and preaching to others, praying, and speaking in tongues while REFUSING to LOVE certain people. (Oh I know I fit into a few of those I just listed). And God said, “You can do ALL of that… but if you REFUSE to love, you don’t know the FIRST thing about me.” God is saying you can’t know me if you do not love.
Then if you read the rest of 1 John 4, you will see that the author gives us an example of God’s loves in 1 John 4:9. He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. As we celebrate the Birth of Christ this month, let us be mindful that, “If God can sacrifice his son for us, that we can sacrifice our pride for God”
I don’t know about you but I am not waiting until 2011 to get Monica together! I am going to start today. Letting people see that I know God through my actions and my love for everyone.
God we thank you! Lord, we come to you as humbly as we can. We come to you confessing our sins. Forgive us, Lord for not being a great example of you. Forgive us Lord for our actions, words, and deeds. Cleanse our minds. Decrease us Lord, and increase yourself in our heart, mind, body, and soul Lord. God we thank you for loving us, and we thank you for loving us enough to push us to change. Thank you for your Word! Thank you for the liberty that we find in your Word! Thank you for being sovereign, Lord. You are awesome! God we ask that you create in us a clean heart, that we may serve you and Love everyone no matter what the circumstances. God we honor you. We give you the praise and it is in your name that we pray today! Amen!
Getting to know God,
