Fixing my attention

Good Morning,

I know it has been awhile since we have all shared in Meditation together. But I solicit your prayers as I continue in this transition.  What I love about the people who share in meditation with me, you all are always encouraging me, keeping my spirits lifted, and always there for me when I need you.  And I thank God for each and every one of you who stand in the gap for me day after day.

This week was enlightening for me.  My best friend and I had a conversation on Thursday that blessed me so much.  She and I talked about transition periods, stagnation, and promotion to sum up our conversation.  Her husband brought up a very good point that has stayed on my mind all Friday.  He reminded her that as an adult, just like when we were children we must go from grade to grade! In school we had to learn, take test, apply information, and if we completed all the expectations of that grade level, we were promoted to the next grade.

Life as an adult is the same way.  I know many have been away from school for so long, but just as you progressed in school, so do you in life.  Remember when you graduated from high school? Although you were happy about graduation, it was still a sad occasion because the people you’d grown accustom to being with, and the atmosphere that made you feel comfortable would be changing.  It was a time of transition for you. Things were changing.   Despite your sadness and how much you were going to miss your classmates, you moved on to a new season in life.  You met new friends, became accustom to new tradition, and became comfortable again.  All to realize that life continued to pass you by and it was once again time to graduate ; this time from college.

What I realized after speaking with my BFF is that for some time now in my life, I have grown too accustom to things.  I have been afraid to move forward, try new things, and obey God.  In my stagnation, I haven’t been the person God has called me to be.  (Maybe I am the only one)  While waiting on God to manifest some things, I have grown weary.  In my weariness I have failed a few tests, forgot to turn in some assignments, and I am at the point where God had to have a conference with me in the principal’s office.  Instead of preparing my lesson and studying through this transition, I have become spiritually stagnate.  But on this Saturday morning, God brought me to a scripture we are so familiar with.

Romans 12:1-2 The Message Bible

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

The Word tells us not to be conformed or well adjusted to culture.  That’s what I have been doing these past few weeks—so comfortable with the ways of the world that I forget I am set apart.  So what God has reminded me is that if I continue to be spiritually stagnate, I will not move to the next “grade” he has prepared for me.  God has shown me in my time with him, that I am not the only person who has become stagnate, comfortable and well adjusted to the ways of the world.

Hopefully, like me, you too will submit to God today—our lives, our daily routines, our planners, and most important ourselves back to Him.  It is through Him that we are everything that we are today.  Lord, if it was not for you in our lives, we would be nothing.  When I think about everything thing I could have been, I instantly realize that it was you who have brought the best out of me.

God on today we submit to your authority!

Let’s Pray!

God, You are so awesome! You are great and gracious to us! We come to you humbly as our your children asking that you forgive us for our sins.  Lord forgive for becomeing comfortable and well adjusted to the ways of the world.  God thank you, for setting us apart and reminding us that we were called to be different.    We ask that you transform our mind, transform our thoughts, and bring us back into intimate relationship with you God through Jesus Christ, our Mediator.  We are nothing with you.  Thank you for promotion and thank you for sending love ones to remind us that it is through you that we become what we were designed to be.  We come against the spirit of stagnation and we speak spiritual promotion and growth, in the name of Jesus! God we thank you for loving us in spite of the things we have done in life.  Thank you, God for being God in our lives.  We will continue to give you all the praise and the Glory forever and ever. In Jesus’ Name we pray, AMEN!
