I participated in two prayer conference calls this week. One is a weekly prayer line called the Powerful Living Prayer Network, which prays together every Tuesday evening (Facebook group). The other was a prayer for the Thomas A. Dorsey National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. Growing up I was taught the purpose of prayer. I can remember growing up at Springhill MBC the Fellowship Choral Choir at every rehearsal would say… “Big Prayer Big Power, Little Prayer Little Power, No Prayer No Power, Lord, teach me how to pray!” As Christians we were always reminded of the importance of prayer… P.U.S.H., Prayer is KEY. But why is it that so many of us are lacking in our prayer life? I will admit my prayer is lacking. Yes, I wake up and pray. I pray before I eat. I pray before I go to bed, and I pray when someone or something is bothering me. But when do I sacrifice my time for prayer? When do we take the time to get on our knees and show reverence to the King? When do we ever lay in God’s presence and just pray for hours? When do we just PRESS into his presence and deny our agenda?
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
My Bishop preached out of the book of Daniel last Sunday and all week I have felt compelled to study the book of Daniel. In this particular scripture, King Darius put out a decree that for 30 days no one could pray to anyone but HIM and if any one prayed to any other they would be placed in the lion’s den! Some of you may read this and say King Darius was “crazy”; pray to him? Who does he think he is? But I hear God saying that some of you have been doing just that— praying, letting your request be made known, petitioning, and calling in supplication to MAN and not God! You think someone else other than God is going to supply your needs— your boss, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your parents, your grandparents, the President of the U.S., The House of Representatives, the Senate. But are there any Daniel’s in the Kingdom? The Daniel’s are committed to prayer no matter what the world says they are going to pray to their God—the only True and Living God! In this season, I don’t care who is in charge or what the world has decreed, I am going to be like Daniel! Who cares what the decree is… you better pray to God Almighty!
God has also shown me that some people are afraid to pray; they’re fearful of being put in the lion’s den. I will admit this was my problem. Every time I felt like I increased my prayer life the enemy turned up the heat! But I am going to be the one to send out a decree to the enemy! Can’t anything not even the LION Den’s keep me from spending time with God through prayer! I don’t care if I have to get up early, go to bed late, and miss my reality TV shows (pray for me)… I am going to PRAY!
When they caught Daniel praying they ran and told King Darius. And despite his decree he did not want Daniel to go into the lion’s den. But Daniel was sent to the Lion’s den and stayed there all night and was not harmed! The lions did not even harm him! Why? God protected him. So if you are afraid to pray for fear of going into the Lion’s Den remember that the God you pray to will protect you!
In this season, so many people are going THROUGH! They have feelings of defeat, depression, guilt and shame. But I encourage you to PRAY! No matter what has been decreed I encourage you to sacrifice some time for God!
We come in the name of the resurrected Jesus, whom we serve! We come asking God to forgive us for our sins; forgive us for our lack of prayer. Forgive us for not sacrificing our time to spend with you. But on today we speak increase prayer time and decreased distractions. We come against the enemy and serve him notice that God’s original plans and purpose for our lives will be manifested. We come against any plan that the enemy has to destroy us. We know that no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper, and we come against the enemy with our Weapon of Prayer! Lord, continue reminding us that Big Prayer means Big Power! Allow us to continue to P.U.S.H! Lord we love you; we adore you. We will worship you forever and ever. Give us the spirit of Daniel to pray to you no matter what the world or those in charge have decreed! Lord, we set the atmosphere for a prayer. we set the atmosphere for a breakthrough. We come against the enemy with full power and authority we have in using the Name of Jesus Christ. And we overtake enemy’s rule that he thinks he has over our lives. We submit our mind, our body, our will, and soul to God because we know and understand that we are not our own. God we will go where you want us to go, say what you want us to say, and operate in your Spirit every day. We pray that the favor of God is richly upon us and profusely abounds in us. Lord, we love you, adore you, and know that there is no one in the world like you; therefore, we no longer need to search! We thank you for your power! We thank you for protecting us when we are in the lions’ den. Thank you Lord! We Love you and we seal this prayer with the blood of Jesus and in His Matchless Name. Amen!
BIG Prayer BIG Power,
